- Airport Departure Tax: When departing the country of Belize
a departure tax of $35.00 U.S per person is due.
- Corozal and Benque Border Departure Tax: When departing the country
of Belize a departure tax of $18.75 US is due. (Children under the age
of 12 yrs are exempt.)
- Climate: Here in Belize we have a sub-tropical to tropical climate,
with a brisk prevailing wind from the Caribbean Sea. The coastal
temperature ranges from about 10 degrees C (50 degrees F) to 36 degrees
C (97 degrees F), with a greater range inland. The mean low and high
temperatures are approximately 24-29 degrees C (76-85 degrees F)
with an average humidity of 85%.
- Clothing: Light, informal, cotton clothing is recommended.
- Currency Exchange: The Belize dollar trades at BZ $2.00 for US $1.00.
- Electricity: 110 volts AC.
- Entry Requirements: A passport (the validity of which must extend
beyond the duration of your stay) is required to enter, along with
proof of return. No visas are required from the USA, UK and most
Caribbean countries. Visitors are allowed a one month visit without
requesting an extension.
- Language: English is the official language, although Spanish, Maya,
Garifuna and Creole are widely spoken.
- Population: The population of Belize is approximately 270,000 people. This
includes Creoles (African-European), Garifuna (Black Caribs), Mestizos (Spanish-Indian),
Maya and Europeans.
- Time Zone: Central Standard Time. Belize does not observe
daylight savings time.
